Thoughts on The Social Network

I just rewatched The Social Network last night and wanted to give some thoughts. Its good, not Best Picture. I have a hard time with why people love this movie so much. It's about a guy who is very successful in his career but unsuccessful in relationships. I guess people can relate to Zuckerberg's flaws. The film is not really about facebook. It's about creating a company and could be about any type of company. The Social Network is directed by an older man (David Fincher) with the message that social media is not the same as having real relationships. The film and the website are very different things. I think people love facebook and that's why they like the film. If younger filmmakers made a facebook movie about connecting with others online, it could be a true facebook movie. Also the entire film feels like exposition. All of the creation of the website happens in flashback in the film. Through dialogue in court testimony we find out about the controversy in making the website. The dialogue has good subtext and the actors do a good job. The speed of the dialogue is not realistic. The most likable character is Eduardo because he gets screwed by Zuckerberg. It was a good movie and shows how relationships are more important than any accomplishment in the world.
